How to Inject Your GLP-1 Medication
Injecting yourself may seem intimidating at first, but it’s easier than you think. Most people feel comfortable after
the first or second time. Here’s a step-by-step guide.
Important note: This medication comes in a vial and must be drawn with a syringe for injection.
Step 1: Prepare
Wash your hands with soap and water
Gather supplies: medication vial, syringe, needles, alcohol wipe, sharps container
Step 2: Choose Injection Site
Abdomen (stomach): at least 2 inches away from belly button
Thigh (front): upper or middle area
Upper back of arm: Only if someone else is injecting you

Rotate injection site each week to avoid irritation.
Step 3: Clean the Area
- Clean the injection site with the alcohol wipe
- Let it air dry (10-15 seconds)
- Don't blow on or touch the area after cleaning
Step 4: Prepare the Vial and Syringe
- Clean the vial cap with an alcohol wipe
- Check that the medication is clear (don't use if cloudy)
- Remove the needle cap from the syringe
- Insert the needle into the vial
- Invert the vial and pull the plunger to fill the syringe with the correct dose
- Remove the needle from the vial and check for air bubbles
- If there are bubbles, gently tap the syringe and push the plunger to remove them
Step 5: Inject
- Gently pinch the cleaned skin with one hand
- With the other hand, insert the needle at a 90-degree angle (straight)
- Press the plunger firmly to inject the medication
- Hold for 5-10 seconds (count out loud if it helps)
- Release the skin and remove the needle
Step 6: Dispose Safely
- Place the used syringe immediately in your sharps container
- NEVER recap the needle
- NEVER throw needles in regular trash
- When container is full, follow local regulations for disposal

When Do Side Effects Improve?
Your injection is weekly. If you miss a dose:
If LESS than 48 hours until your next dose: Inject as soon as possible
If MORE than 48 hours: Skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
NEVER inject two doses at once to make up for it
